Can you describe Christmas in three words?

This was the question put to various celebrities in an M&S advert a few years ago.

Here are three words explaining why Christmas is celebrated in churches right across the world:

Christmas is HISTORICAL:
it really happened

There has never been anyone like Jesus. He lived a life of astonishing humility, kindness and compassion. He taught as no one else has ever taught and he performed extraordinary miracles.

Christmas is JOYFUL:
God really cares

We may still not understand why there is so much suffering in the world, but at least we can be sure that God is not indifferent to it. He got involved in our world by sending his own Son to be born on Earth.

Christmas is ESSENTIAL:
it really matters

Jesus came to achieve an urgent rescue. We read in the Bible, ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.’ If we trust in him, we can be sure we are completely accepted by God.
